Windows Update not working

Step 1Click “Start,” type “Services” and press “Enter.”

Step 2Scroll down to “Windows Update” in the Service window, right-click and select “Stop.”

Click “Start,” then “Computer.” Double-click “C:,” double-click “Windows” and double-click “SoftwareDistribution.”

Step 4Right-click “Download,” click “Rename” and type “BakDownload.” Press “Enter.”

Step 5Click “Start,” point to the arrow next to “Shut Down” and click “Restart.” Wait for your computer to restart.

Step 6Browse back to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder. Windows should have automatically recreated the Download folder.

Step 7Click “Start,” type “Windows Update” and press “Enter.” Windows Update will proceed normally. You can now delete “BakDownload.”

If you still get error,

Browse back to the C:\Windows\ and rename “SoftwareDistribution” to “SoftwareDistribution_old”.

Scroll down to “Windows Update” in the Service window, right-click and select “Start.”

Windows should have automatically recreated the SoftwareDistribution folder.

This fix worked for me.
